Master Security is currently seeking FPS / GSA Certified PSO's with a minimum 3 years experience for our VA FPS sites. 


  • The functions listed describe the purpose of the Protective Security Officer position.  Specific duties or tasks may vary and be documented separately.  The employee may not be obligated to implement all tasks listed.  Additional duties may be assigned, and functions may be revised, according to corporate necessity.

  • All functions, duties, tasks are to be carried out in an honest, ethical and professional manner, and to be performed in conformance with applicable company policies and procedures.  In the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of company policies and procedures, employees are required to request clarification or explanations from superiors or authorized company representatives.

Perform a variety of security-related duties, depending on the posts to which they are assigned.   PSO's shall answer questions and provide directions to visitors and building tenants.  Typical duties include processing visitors by verifying identification, enforce property rules and regulations, contact agency sponsors or escorts, fabricating and issuing visitor passes, entering and maintaining data on visitor logs or automated visitor data base programs, detect and report criminal acts, and ensuring visitors are presented for appropriate personnel and package screening.  Additional duties include prevent, discover, delay, and/or detain persons attempting to gain unauthorized access to property and/or personnel at the facility being protected.  

WORKING CONDITIONS: With or without reasonable accommodation, requires the physical and mental capacity to perform effectively all essential tasks.  In addition to other demands, the duties of the job include:

  • Work is performed inside and outside the property with exposure to inclement weather and unpredictable crisis situations.
  • Shift work required.
  • Ability to remain on post up to four (4) consecutive hours without eating, drinking, or relieving bladder/bowels. 
  • Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping, up to 12 hours per day, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime.

Credentials to Obtain and Maintain

To be employed by Master Security as a PSO you must be able to obtain and maintain Federal Protective Services (FPS) / Department of Homeland Security (DHS) certifications and credentials. The recruitment process may be fast tracked for eligible candidates who possess current and suitable certifications to include:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Company approved Physical/ stress test and drug screening
  • CPR certification  (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)- valid for 1 year on our contracts
  • AED certification  (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)- valid for 1 year on our contracts
  • First Aid certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)- valid for 2 years on our contracts
  • 40 Hour Initial Weapons Firearms Training Exhibit
  • Monadnock baton certification- valid for 1 year on our contracts
  • Oleoresin Capsicum spray certification-valid for 1 year on our contracts
  • 72 Hour Basic Training Exhibit -valid for 3 years
  • FPS/DHS Orientation Certification
  • FPS/DHS 8 Hour National Weapons Detection Program Training - valid for 1 year
  • FPS Suitability Fitness Determination
  • FPS A-9 Firearms Qualification (9mm)
  • CURRENT DCJS License (to work on a Virginia contract)
